The mountain dulcimer is a uniquely American instrument that lends itself well to acoustic genres including folk music, traditional hymns, and international/world music. It is a bridge between the Old World and the New, the ancient and the modern, and my musical repertoire (both instrumental and vocal) reflects such fusions.
You will find that each of my songs is deeply tied to a story. With my singing and playing, I seek to create mystical and mythical journeys guided by an acoustic heart, which is the mountain dulcimer… My music is meant to nurture hope and affirm the goodness and beauty of life. My style incorporates a Romantic blend of medieval, Celtic, folk, and world music along with newer influences. I offer several resources to promote, feature, and support the mountain dulcimer and those who play it. My books, recordings, and workshops can be found at www.JessicaComeauDulcimer.com, and current updates can be found at Pensacola Mountain Dulcimer Wildflowers page on Facebook.

NEW MTN. DULCIMER WORKSHOP (July 7, 2024, 1-2:30 p.m. CDT): The secret to freedom and flow in your mountain dulcimer playing is getting grounded in secure and solid techniques. Besides this, you will be provided with a skills checklist to help you set goals for your growth in playing. This workshop is specifically tailored for those wishing to accelerate their growth and fill in learning gaps (at the novice, intermediate, and advanced levels). Registration will be $15 per participant. I will send you a Zoom meeting link and a PayPal link (or Square invoice upon request) once you RSVP by messaging me on Facebook or emailing me at the address on my website: www.JessicaComeauDulcimer.com

Jessica Comeau - Veni Creator Spiritus (Arr. for Mountain Dulcimer)
Переглядів 517Місяць тому
It's wonderful how much potential there is in just three strings and three frets! This is one of the songs we will be learning at my "Spiritsong" mountain dulcimer workshop, a Gregorian chant called "Veni Creator Spiritus." In addition to the ancient melody line, I have added interpretive chords for accompaniment. www.JessicaComeauDulcimer.com

Among the songs we will be learning at my upcoming “Springdans” mountain dulcimer workshop (April 28) is this beautiful folk dance from Norway, “Springdans fra Vestfold.” A “springdans” is a kind of running or “springing” dance, but I also like to think of it as a song for the springtime. Many thanks to Tone Krohn for collecting this lovely melody from her homeland and for sharing it with me! w...

Here's another teaser form a recent workshop, "Border Ballads." "Sir Patrick Spens" is a ballad from the English Scottish border, and it tells the story of a sea captain who goes on a dangerous voyage, knowing it is doomed to end in tragedy. I am playing in D-G-D with a capo on the first fret. www.JessicaComeauDulcimer.com

Jessica Comeau- "I Will Never Forget: The Elf King's Lament" Lyric Video (Original Fantasy Music)

This original song from my album "Faerie Memories" tells the story of the Elvenking Thranduil of Mirkwood from "The Hobbit" as portrayed in both the book and film trilogy. As his character is developed, it becomes clear that behind his cold, imperious demeanor lie raw, unhealed wounds, including the loss of his wife, the elf prince Legolas’ mother; Thranduil is not heartless but has buried part...

Thank you so much, Cynthia! I have not published this in a book yet, but I do teach it from time to time at workshops and in private lessons! You're most welcome to stop by for an online lesson on this song, if you would like! www.jessicacomeaudulcimer.com/online-lessons.html
Beautiful arrangement, Jessica. I don't know how I've not heard this before today 🥰
Thanks for stopping by, Dean! :-) I'm glad you enjoyed it... The beautiful mystery of the melody simply begged for more mysterious improvisations and interludes... :-)
@@JessicaComeauDulcimer well you certainly nailed it on this arrangement. Thanks so much for posting 🥰
Beautiful! Love the tonality of the lower instrument in contrast to the higher one. Curious who is maker / how you acquired the Angel wing harp? What are gauges on the string? Sounds very high. Thanks for sharing this. ❤️🪽
What a wonderful version. Thanks.
Thank you so much! <3
I went to your website to try and locate the tab for this beautiful piece but was unable to find it. I would love to learn it.
I will be publishing a new and improved tab for this song in my upcoming Irish book to be released later this year! :-)

Como se chama esse instrumento?
Mountain dulcimer! :-)
What is your tuning for this song?
Key of D minor; C-G-C tuning, capo 1 :-)
Jessica, where do you find all these wonderful old tunes? I have all of your educational material, but I’m just a brand new player and not ready to try playing at your level yet, but I’ll get there.
Oh, here, there, and everywhere! :-) I do offer online Zoom lessons, and I have some openings right now, so perhaps a time might work for you, if you're interested!
@@JessicaComeauDulcimer Hi, Jessica. I’m sorry for the delayed response and delighted that I might get an opportunity to take dulcimer lessons from a real player. I have a problem, though, and that is my work schedule. Although I’m quite ancient for the job (74), I am still working full time as a hospice medical director. Also, although I have a family in Southern California, I work and live alone here in Yuma, AZ, so I have no one else to help with weekend chores, etc. It is a schedule that doesn’t lend itself to the best or most regular students. Also, I’ve tried taking organ lessons in the past, but it wasn’t a very satisfying experience for either of us, so the lessons didn’t continue for very long. Things change, though, and I’d like to study with you. Is there a way I can reach you by something other than YT messages? My personal email is wms1110@earthlink.net.
Thank you, Jessica. The mountain dulcimer is a perfect instrument for these old Celtic and Irish tunes. I think they’re beautiful. I have begun to learn to play my new dulcimer and hope to be able to play with a style similar to your own one day. 😮
I agree that Celtic music is very much at home on this instrument, Dr. Michael! I am happy that you are discovering the beautiful potential of the mountain dulcimer!
Beautiful!
that was perfect , love from scotland xx
Thank you so much, Nadia! I love this song... :-)
Exquisite!❤
Very beautiful!
Please, more!
Lovely!! 🌹
Ohhh, a new video by my favorite Dulicmer player. I've missed the last few workshops but looking forward to participating in an upcoming one. Great song, short and sweet Thank you Ms. Jessica.
Thank you, Paul! I hope we will see you again before too long! :-)
